Approach

Patients don’t choose the best clinic. They choose the one they understand and trust first.

That decision happens on a phone, often in a few minutes, usually between three or four clinics. Our job is to make sure your clinic is the one that answers the patient’s questions first.

01The gap

Attention isn’t the problem. What happens after it is.

Most established clinics are already findable by name. Patients who were referred will search for you, find your profile and, eventually, call. The patients you are missing are the ones who did not know your name: someone new to the area, someone with a sudden toothache, someone who has been putting off a check-up for years.

Those patients search for “dentist near me” or a treatment, open several clinics, and compare. They are not comparing clinical skill, which they cannot judge. They are comparing clarity, trust and ease: who explains things, who looks real, who is easiest to reach.

That is good news for a clinic. Those three things can be designed, built and measured.

02Before they call

Six things patients check before they ever pick up the phone.

  1. 01

    “Who will treat me?”

Named dentists, their qualifications and what each one does.

  2. 02

    “What will it cost?”

Price ranges, or an honest explanation of how pricing works, plus insurance and payment options.

  3. 03

“Will it hurt? Will I be judged?”

The fear questions, answered on the page before anyone has to ask.

  4. 04

    “Where exactly is it?”

Building, floor, landmark, parking, hours — enough to walk to the door.

  5. 05

    “Can I reach them now?”

WhatsApp, a phone number that taps, a short form, all within thumb reach.

  6. 06

“Is this place real and current?”

Real photos, recent details, the same information on Google and the website.

03Weak vs strong

The same clinic, two very different first impressions.

What patients often find

  • A slider of stock photos and “quality care you can trust”
  • Phone number as an image, or in the footer only
  • No prices, no insurers, no names
  • Five seconds of white screen on mobile data
  • A contact form with eleven fields

What we build instead

  • One sentence that says who the clinic is for
  • WhatsApp and call within thumb reach on every page
  • Price ranges, insurers named, dentists introduced
  • Readable in under two seconds on a phone
  • A first message that is already written

04The decision

Discover, understand, trust, choose, contact. What we build for each step.

05Kenya-specific craft

Built for how Kenyan patients actually browse. Seven details we never skip.

  • WhatsApp with the words already written

One tap opens a chat that already says what the patient wants. Fewer half-finished enquiries.

    Live on Shwari and Beverly

  • Phone links that work everywhere

Numbers in +254 format, so tap-to-call and WhatsApp work from any phone, including abroad.

    Every number we ship

  • SHA/SHIF and insurers, up front

The first question many patients ask, answered next to the booking button, not buried in a footer.

    Beverly lists SHA/SHIF first

  • Light enough for prepaid data

Pages measured in kilobytes, not megabytes. A patient on bundles can open your site without thinking about it.

    Shwari home: 88 KB

  • Works inside WhatsApp and Instagram

Many patients open your link from a chat. We test in those in-app browsers, not just Chrome.

    Tested on every build

  • M-Pesa and instalments, explained

How to pay and whether treatment can be spread out, said plainly before the first visit.

    Shwari pricing page

  • Directions to the actual door

Building, floor, landmark and parking — because "Westlands" is not an address a patient can walk to.

06How this site is built

This website is our first case study. Check it on your own phone.

56 KB

The weight of this page, measured from the built files when the site was published.

4.5MB

Median weight of the 8 Kenyan clinic and agency sites we measured on a phone.

~8s

Their median time to finish loading — on a fast connection. On prepaid data it is longer.

Our analytics counts visits and taps without cookies or personal profiles.

How we measured

In October 2026 we loaded eight Kenyan dental clinic and agency websites in an emulated mid-range Android phone and recorded the total data transferred and the time to the page’s load event. The connection was fast and unthrottled, so real patients on mobile data would wait longer. We don’t name the sites; the point is the pattern, not the clinics.

Every page on this site is measured the same way, automatically, every time it is published. The number in the footer is that measurement. The build fails if any page goes over 350 KB.

Built with Astro and no client-side framework, on a charcoal adaptation of a Stripe-inspired design system: one typeface, one accent colour, hairline rules and no decoration that a patient would have to download.
